Today's News: Deadline to Collect Election Compensation and Drug Control

Ecuador is updating its list of controlled substances and has set a deadline for thousands of citizens to collect their compensation for participating in the last elections. At the same time, the country faces a demographic alert due to the loss of its young population and international pressure following the death of a foreign activist.

Citizens who served as members of the Polling Stations (MJRV) during the 2025 Referendum and Popular Consultation now have a deadline to collect their financial compensation. The National Electoral Council (CNE) urged those who performed this duty to visit authorized financial institutions to withdraw payment for their services before the established deadline expires.

The National Government, through the Ministry of Public Health, has added 10 new substances to the list of products subject to oversight. This measure aims to strengthen state control over synthetic drugs and prevent their illicit commercialization within the national territory, under the supervision of the Inter-institutional Committee for Drug Prevention.

An analysis of demographic data reveals that Ecuador has lost 248,157 young men over the last 35 years due to preventable external causes, such as violence or accidents. This figure is alarming because the male birth rate in the country has dropped by half during the same period, creating a population imbalance that authorities describe as an irreversible social cost.

In the judicial and diplomatic sphere, the Polish government has demanded a transparent and impartial investigation from Ecuador into the death of Polish activist Mónika Silva. The incident occurred last Monday in the coastal town of Montañita, in the province of Santa Elena. Poland is requesting human rights guarantees and clarity regarding the circumstances of her death.

In Quito, authorities shut down an underground party at a country estate in Conocoto, in the Valle de los Chillos, where approximately one thousand people were gathered. Among the attendees were 200 minors without adult supervision. So far in 2026, 22 sanctioning processes have been initiated for unauthorized events of this type in the capital.
