Urgent Parliamentary Action in Egypt to Address Snake Proliferation in Provinces
The Egyptian House of Representatives has taken urgent measures over the past few days following a tragic incident in Sharqia Governorate that resulted in the deaths of several citizens due to snake bites. This incident has sparked widespread concern among residents in rural and agricultural areas.
Members of Parliament have demanded that the government intervene immediately to control the spread of venomous reptiles in villages and remote areas. The demands included intensifying campaigns for spraying pesticides and poisons specifically designed to eliminate snakes, in addition to providing antivenom serums in all health units and hospitals near the affected areas.
For its part, the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities have begun coordinating with the governorates to raise the state of emergency and educate citizens on prevention methods. Authorities also urged residents to exercise caution when in agricultural lands or areas with dense vegetation, and to report any sightings of reptiles immediately to ensure they are handled by specialists.
These actions come within the framework of the state's commitment to protecting the lives of citizens and ensuring their safety. It is expected that the coming period will see an expanded action plan covering all governorates suffering from this phenomenon, to ensure that such tragic incidents do not recur.
