Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt participates in an important African meeting in Nairobi to enhance financial cooperation
The Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt participated in the meeting of the Committee of Governors of the African Payment and Settlement System, which was recently held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. This meeting comes within the framework of Egypt's ongoing efforts to strengthen economic and financial cooperation with countries across the African continent.
The meeting discussed ways to develop digital payment systems between African nations, with the aim of facilitating intra-African trade and reducing reliance on foreign currencies in financial transactions. The system aims to link African central banks to one another to ensure the speed and security of financial transfers.
During the sessions, participants emphasized the importance of digital transformation in the African banking sector, as Egypt seeks to share its expertise in the field of financial inclusion with brotherly nations. Current global economic challenges and how to address them through the coordination of monetary policies among member states were also reviewed.
This participation comes at a time when Egypt is working to expand the scope of its economic partnerships within the continent, in a way that serves national interests and supports the growth of the Egyptian economy. This step is considered part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing Egypt's role as a regional financial and commercial hub in Africa.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the governors agreed on the necessity of moving forward with the implementation of technical projects that serve the African payment system, while emphasizing the importance of continuing to hold such periodic meetings to ensure the achievement of common goals and the development of the continent's financial infrastructure.
