Cypriot President emphasizes the importance of cooperation to achieve stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides affirmed, in official statements, his country's commitment to working towards enhancing stability and cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean region. The President pointed out that Nicosia's primary goal is to reduce tensions in the region, ensuring security and prosperity for all countries bordering the Mediterranean.
These statements come at a time when the Eastern Mediterranean region is witnessing intense diplomatic activity, with Egypt playing a pivotal role as a strategic partner in many regional initiatives. Egypt and Cyprus are considered key actors in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, which aims to transform the region into a regional energy hub, thereby strengthening economic cooperation between neighboring countries.
The Cypriot President stressed that dialogue is the only way to resolve existing disputes, calling for the necessity of respecting international law and the sovereignty of states. He explained that stability in this vital region is not only important for Cyprus, but is an urgent necessity to ensure energy security and international shipping traffic passing through the Egyptian Suez Canal.
The countries concerned look forward to building long-term partnerships based on common interests rather than conflicts. This vision underscores the importance of continuous coordination between Cairo and Nicosia, especially in the fields of energy and regional security, to address common challenges that could affect the stability of the entire region.
In concluding his remarks, the Cypriot President expressed his hope that the language of understanding will prevail in the coming period, emphasizing that regional cooperation is the true key to achieving the sustainable development to which the peoples of the region aspire.
