Egypt News: New Government Support and Major Investments in the Food Sector
Egypt is currently witnessing a series of important developments in the economic and food sectors. The Egyptian government seeks to enhance food security and alleviate the cost-of-living burdens on citizens, at a time when the local market is experiencing significant activity from major companies and an expansion in private investments.
Within the framework of social support, the Ministry of Finance announced the provision of an additional 400 EGP in cash support on ration cards. Approximately 10 million families, equivalent to 25 million Egyptian citizens, are set to benefit from this decision. This step aims to help families cope with the rising cost of living and secure their needs for basic commodities.
On the economic front, "Gourmet Egypt" for food industries is moving toward offering approximately 47.6% of its shares on the Egyptian Exchange, aiming to raise about $28 million. This offering comes at a time when the Minister of Finance confirmed a 73% increase in private investments, reflecting investors' significant confidence in the strength of the Egyptian economy and the future of the food industries.
On the other hand, the latest official data showed an increase in Egypt's unemployment rate, reaching 6.4% during the third quarter of this year. To face these challenges and develop the skills of young people, leading companies such as "Egypt Foods" announced the opening of summer training for the year 2026 in various fields, contributing to the preparation of a new generation of qualified cadres for the labor market.
At the international and humanitarian levels, Egypt launched relief convoy No. 102 to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, loaded with urgent humanitarian aid. Cairo also hosted an important G20 meeting, where the Minister of Finance discussed Egyptian and African priorities for achieving sustainable food security in cooperation with international partners.
In conclusion, these events reflect the diversity of efforts made in Egypt to achieve a balance between direct social support and the encouragement of investment. Despite existing economic challenges, the food sector remains a fundamental pillar of development, as the state continues to strengthen its regional and international role in food security and humanitarian aid issues.
