Egypt Strengthens Food Security and Private Investments Amid New Economic Developments
Egypt is currently witnessing a series of economic and social moves aimed at supporting growth and achieving stability. These developments focus significantly on the food industry sector, increasing private investments, and providing support to farmers and youth, in light of changes in unemployment rates and new tax policies.
On the economic front, the Egyptian Minister of Finance announced a significant 73% increase in private investments, reflecting investor confidence in the Egyptian market. In this context, "Gourmet" plans to raise $28 million through its initial public offering on the Egyptian Exchange this year. Additionally, "Egypt Foods" seeks to increase its production capacity by 30% over the coming year, contributing to the availability of more products in the markets.
Regarding food security, the Minister of Finance discussed Egyptian and African priorities at an important G20 meeting in Cairo. Locally, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait-Egypt collaborated with the Egyptian Food Bank to support small farmers and poultry breeders in Beni Suef Governorate to improve their productivity and income. Meanwhile, Egypt continues its humanitarian role by sending the 102nd relief aid convoy to the Gaza Strip to support the Palestinian people.
On the other hand, official data showed that the unemployment rate in Egypt rose to 6.4% during the third quarter of this year. To address these challenges and prepare youth for the labor market, companies like "Egypt Foods" are providing summer internship opportunities for students, and students from the American University in Cairo visited the Food Bank to learn volunteer management skills.
Regarding fiscal policy, the Egyptian Tax Authority reassured citizens and investors that there will be no increase in tax rates in the coming period. The authority also emphasized protecting essential food commodities from any additional burdens, while continuing to provide support to taxpayers to encourage investment across various sectors.
These diverse events demonstrate the efforts of the state and the private sector in Egypt to achieve a balance between economic growth and social protection. Despite existing challenges, the increase in investments and developmental initiatives provides positive indicators toward a future that supports food security and provides new professional opportunities for Egyptian youth.
