Ministry of Health announces the start of the second phase of the Universal Health Insurance system in 5 new governorates
The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has officially announced the launch of the second phase of the Universal Health Insurance project, as part of the state's plan to develop medical services and provide high-quality healthcare to all citizens across various governorates.
This new phase includes five different governorates, where work will begin on equipping hospitals and health units and developing the infrastructure necessary to provide medical services in accordance with international standards. This step aims to expand the scope of health coverage to include millions of citizens who did not benefit from the first phase.
To facilitate the registration process, the General Authority for Universal Health Insurance has invited citizens to begin registration procedures using their national ID cards. The Authority has also designated a unified hotline (15344) to answer all citizens' inquiries, schedule appointments with family doctors, and organize referrals to specialized hospitals when needed.
In addition to the hotline, the Ministry has provided an official website that allows citizens to book appointments and view a map of nearby health units. These digital facilities come as part of the digital transformation adopted by the state to save time and effort for patients and ensure they receive service easily.
This phase is an important step towards achieving universal health coverage in Egypt, as the state seeks to generalize this system across all governorates over the coming years. The Ministry of Health calls on citizens in the target governorates to take the initiative to register in order to benefit from the advanced medical services provided by the new system.
