Egyptian Drug Authority Strengthens Cooperation with Sierra Leone and Issues New Register for HIV Medications
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, as part of the preparations for the upcoming Africa Health ExCon. This agreement aims to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of pharmaceutical regulation and the development of pharmaceutical industries between the two countries, reflecting Egypt's leadership role in the health sector within the African continent.
The memorandum focuses primarily on the exchange of technical expertise and training in the field of pharmaceutical market regulation. Through this cooperation, Egypt seeks to support the health systems of fellow African nations and ensure access to safe and effective medicines for all. This step is considered part of the Egyptian state's strategy to open new markets for local medical products in Africa.
Within the framework of its efforts to develop health services in Egypt, the Authority also announced the issuance of the section dedicated to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) treatment medications from the 2026 Egyptian Drug Register. This register contains all updated information regarding available and officially registered medicines, facilitating the work of doctors and pharmacists in providing appropriate treatment to patients.
These moves come at a time when Egypt is seeking to fully modernize its pharmaceutical system to keep pace with international standards. These initiatives are expected to contribute to improving the quality of medical services provided to citizens and providing the latest treatments at affordable prices, while strengthening Egypt's position as a regional hub for the manufacture and export of medicine in the region.
