Labour Ministry lists 1,140 jobs, applications open all August

Egypt's Ministry of Labour has published a list of 1,140 vacancies at a single company working in cleaning and maintenance, with monthly pay ranging from 7,000 to 30,000 pounds depending on the role and the experience it asks for.

The largest single block is 400 posts for cleaning staff, paying between 7,000 and 9,000 pounds a month. A further 700 posts cover buffet staff, plumbers, carpenters and refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians, all in the 8,000 to 15,000 pound range. Above those sit 25 recruitment specialists on 10,000 to 20,000 pounds, and 15 recruitment managers with cleaning-sector experience on 15,000 to 30,000.

The entry requirements are unusually wide. The ministry says applicants may hold a higher or intermediate qualification, may simply be able to read and write, or for some roles may have no qualification at all, depending on the job applied for. Applications are open to both men and women aged between 18 and 50. The package attached to the posts includes private medical insurance, social insurance, accommodation and meals, and an annual increase. The accommodation matters more than it sounds if the work is not near where you already live.

The jobs are spread across Cairo and the Delta: Tagammu and New Cairo, downtown Cairo, 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed, Heliopolis, Obour, Shubra El-Kheima, Alexandria, Tanta and other Delta areas.

Applications run through August. You can apply through the General Directorate for Employment at the ministry's old headquarters in Nasr City, through the labour directorate in your governorate, through the ministry's website, or directly with the company advertising. For this listing the ministry has published two numbers, 01228360956 and 01220946209, and an address at 24 Obour Buildings, Salah Salem, next to Ard El-Maared metro station.

One thing worth holding on to before you go: these jobs sit with a private contractor, not with the ministry. The ministry is advertising and screening, it is not the employer. Ask what the contract says, what the hours are and where the accommodation actually is before you agree to anything, and do not pay anyone a fee to be placed in a job advertised through a government directorate.
