Remote Work Continues on Sundays Throughout September
The Cabinet, during its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, approved a draft resolution to continue the remote work system on Sundays each week throughout the month of September 2026. This means extending an arrangement already in effect rather than having it end at the end of August, so Sunday remains a remote workday rather than a day off.
The decision applies to all employees in the facilities and entities covered by it, meaning it does not automatically include everyone working in Egypt. The distinction is practically important: those working for an entity covered by the decision perform their tasks on Sunday from home, while those working outside its scope remain committed to their usual working hours and attendance at the workplace.
The extension comes as part of the arrangements for organizing workdays that the government has implemented over the past months, which have been renewed month after month. This sequence itself is what should be noted: the decision is limited to the month of September alone and does not automatically extend to October; any continuation thereafter requires a new decision from the Cabinet.
What you should do now: Check with your workplace or human resources department to see if your facility is among the entities covered before the beginning of September, and do not assume so based on what others are doing. This is particularly important for those working on temporary contracts, daily wage systems, or for subcontractors, as the treatment of the contracting entity may differ from that of the original employer. Keep proof of your remote work performance on Sundays, as attendance records are usually what are counted when settling wages or annual leave balances.
