Developing the Pharmaceutical Sector in Egypt: New Steps to Ensure Product Quality
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has announced new steps aimed at improving the drug monitoring system in the local market. These efforts come within the framework of the state's keenness to ensure that safe and effective medicines reach citizens and to prevent the circulation of any products that do not meet standard specifications.
In this context, Hatem Qandil, an official in the sector, explained that some pharmaceutical companies have not yet completed the required electronic linkage preparations. This linkage is an essential part of the new digital system that aims to track the path of medicine from the factory until it reaches pharmacies, which facilitates the monitoring process.
To assist these companies in complying with the new standards, the Authority has launched intensive training programs in cooperation with "GS1 Egypt". These courses aim to train employees on the use of modern technologies in packaging and tracking, to ensure that all companies operating in Egypt comply with global regulatory rules.
These measures are considered part of a broader strategy to develop the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt. It is expected that the full implementation of this system will increase consumer confidence in local products and reduce the chances of counterfeit medicines being present in the markets.
The Drug Authority continues to follow up with companies that have not completed the preparations, while providing them with the necessary technical support. The Authority confirms that the ultimate goal is to achieve an integrated digital pharmaceutical system that serves the interests of the Egyptian patient and ensures the safety of medicine throughout the Republic.
