Ministry of Electricity Announces Cancellation of Unified Tariff Bracket for Code Meters
The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has announced a new decision regarding holders of code meters, deciding to cancel the "unified tariff bracket" system that had been in effect previously. This decision comes following the completion of reconciliation procedures for building violations, with the aim of regulating electricity consumption more accurately and fairly for all citizens.
The Ministry explained that code meters will now be subject to the standard consumption bracket system, just like traditional meters. This means that the monthly bill amount will depend on the actual consumption of each household, where consumption is divided into brackets that start at the lowest price and increase gradually with higher consumption.
This measure aims to encourage citizens to rationalize energy consumption and ensure that the state's dues are collected in a legal and organized manner. The Ministry also emphasized that this change will not affect holders of prepaid meters who are already adhering to the bracket system, but rather aims to unify the rules for all subscribers to the national electricity grid.
For their part, electricity distribution companies in various governorates have called on citizens to review their bills and ensure their data is updated in the event of any change in the property's status following reconciliation. The Ministry also confirmed that it continues to develop digital services to facilitate the process of recharging meters and monitoring consumption via mobile applications.
This decision comes within the framework of the Egyptian state's plan to develop the energy sector and improve the efficiency of the electrical grid, while emphasizing the need for everyone to adhere to the new standards to ensure the continued high quality and uninterrupted provision of service.
