Social insurance is moving off paper — the authority is targeting 85 percent of entitlement payouts inside 72 hours
Egypt's National Social Insurance Authority is switching on a new digital system, and the change is aimed squarely at how long people wait. The stated target is that 85 percent of entitlement cases will be settled in under 72 hours, once the required data and documents have been submitted and processed. Payments that used to depend on how quickly a particular office worked its way through a paper file are meant to move on a set clock instead.
The wider shift is away from the counter. Under the old arrangement, a great many procedures required the insured person or the employer to deal directly with a specific insurance office and see the matter through there in person. The new system is designed so that a growing share of services can be completed remotely, cutting out repeat journeys. The authority offers around 170 separate insurance services in total, covering insured workers, pensioners and employers, and the plan is to widen how many of them can be handled without a visit.
Two changes sit underneath that. The first is data: records are being updated and procedures linked electronically, so that a case can be checked and moved without documents being carried between departments. The second is collection — contributions can now be taken through the system electronically rather than through the older manual process, which is intended to speed up collection and reduce the time it ties up.
There is a practical consequence worth acting on. The 72-hour target only starts running once your file is complete, which means the delay now sits mostly on the applicant's side rather than the office's. Before you submit a claim, check that your personal data held by the authority is current and that every supporting document is included, because an incomplete file will simply sit outside the target.
