Arrest of three suspects after a brutal attempted murder of an Iraqi man in Tyrol

Authorities in Tyrol have identified and arrested three suspects in connection with a violent attack on a 30-year-old Iraqi man in Zirl, Innsbruck-Land district. The attack occurred in early March, and the victim was admitted to Innsbruck Hospital in critical condition.

The assault took place on the evening of March 1st in a parking lot on Seefelder Straße. According to reports, several people attacked the victim with baseball bats, and one of the attackers stabbed him in the chest. The victim sustained serious injuries to his head, eye, and leg, and later told the police that he believed the attackers "wanted to kill him."

The incident raised widespread concern due to its timing, as the Iraqi man had recently revealed information related to a asylum scandal, raising questions about the possibility of a connection between the assault and the disclosure he made. The level of violence increased the state of alert among the local community.

After months of investigation, the Tyrol Criminal Police Office identified three suspects: a 30-year-old Austrian man, a 22-year-old Syrian woman, and a 25-year-old stateless Palestinian man. Philippa Rapold, Deputy Head of the Criminal Investigation Office in Tyrol, confirmed that two of the suspects live in Vorarlberg, while the third lives in Tyrol. The Syrian woman is suspected of having acted as a lure, as it is believed she attracted the victim to the site of the attack.

Authorities confirm that the investigation is still ongoing and sensitive. Evidence is still being examined, and officials are working to determine the true motive behind the attack, including whether there is any direct connection to the victim's statements regarding the asylum scandal.
