President Stubb: Finland to redefine its relationship with Russia after the war in Ukraine
President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb has announced that Finland will evaluate and redefine its relationship with Russia in a new way as soon as the war in Ukraine ends. According to the President, the current situation has significantly changed the interaction between the two countries.
Relations between Finland and Russia have been extremely tense in recent years. The primary reason for this is Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. As a result, border traffic has decreased and political cooperation between the countries has almost completely come to a halt.
President Stubb emphasizes that building a new relationship will require time and a stable situation. At present, the focus of Finland's foreign policy is on ensuring security and supporting Ukraine. Finland has also joined the NATO military alliance, which has changed the country's role in international politics.
The form of future relations will depend largely on how the war in Ukraine ends and how Russia's actions evolve after the war. Finland is monitoring the situation closely and preparing for various possibilities in the coming years.
The ultimate goal is to create a stable and predictable situation on Finland's eastern border. Although a redefinition of relations is necessary, officials emphasize that security remains Finland's top priority.
