European Route E16 expands to Finland in March
Finland's road network will undergo a significant change next month as European Route 16, or the E16, will now extend into Finland. The Government has confirmed a new decree on the matter, which will come into effect on March 5, 2026.
The E16 is an international route that has previously connected countries from Norway to the United Kingdom. The new decree means that the E16 designation will also appear on signs along Finnish road sections. The change is part of the Government's goal to develop Finland's infrastructure to better meet European standards.
The change will take effect on March 5, when the new alignment of the road will be formalized. Drivers should note that the change in the road's name does not directly affect speed limits or other traffic regulations, but it will clarify international route planning.
