Surprise birth on a train: Baby born on Helsinki–Vaasa route
An unusual situation occurred on the Finnish railways on Tuesday evening when a baby was born on a passenger train. VR confirmed that the birth took place during the journey on the IC49 train traveling between Helsinki and Vaasa.
According to VR, the train staff handled the situation calmly and professionally. Passengers on the train and the staff assisted in managing the situation, and the train continued its journey toward its destination after the birth.
Births on trains are extremely rare in Finland. VR has stated that while train staff are trained to handle various emergency situations, such a unique event is still an exceptional experience for the entire train community.
Both the mother and the newborn baby are doing well. VR wished the family happiness and thanked the train staff and passengers for the assistance they provided during the situation.
