Tourism in Finland declined in June – the number of Asian tourists, in particular, fell
The Finnish tourism industry experienced a quiet start to June. According to fresh statistics, overnight stays by foreign tourists in mainland Finland decreased by three percent in June 2026 compared to the previous year.
A particularly notable change was seen regarding Asian travelers. The number of overnight stays made by them fell by as much as 20 percent in June. This is a significant drop, as Asian tourists have traditionally been an important customer group for many Finnish tourism companies.
According to Statistics Finland, many factors are contributing to the decline, such as the state of the global economy and rising travel costs. Although domestic tourism has remained stable, the decrease in foreign guests is visible especially in large cities and popular tourist destinations.
Tourism industry operators are monitoring the situation closely regarding the rest of the summer. Although the figures for June were on a downward trend, companies in the sector hope that the end of the summer will increase tourist flows and improve the situation heading into the autumn.
The development of tourism is important for the Finnish economy, as it supports service industries and employment across the country. Authorities and tourism promoters are now analyzing the reasons behind the decline so that Finland remains an attractive destination in the future as well.
