Finns' card payments increased significantly during the spring and summer
The use of payment cards by Finns has increased considerably in the second quarter of the year. According to recent statistics, Finns made card payments totaling 20.6 billion euros during the April–June period.
This sum is six percent higher than in the corresponding period in 2025. The growth indicates that card payment remains the most popular way to handle daily purchases in Finland. The use of cash has been steadily declining for a long time, and digital payment methods have almost completely replaced it.
The growth in the number of card payments is influenced by several factors, such as the popularity of online shopping and the ease of use of contactless payment features. Consumers are also using cards more than ever for small daily purchases, such as grocery shopping and paying for services.
Statistics show that Finnish consumption habits have remained stable, even though the economic situation has been challenging. The large total sum of card payments reflects the economic activity of Finns and their trust in electronic payment methods.
