Finland and Ukraine strengthen defense cooperation in drone manufacturing
Finland and Ukraine have taken a significant step in their defense cooperation. The Finnish defense company Patria and the Ukrainian drone manufacturer Center of Unmanned Technologies, also known as "General Cherry," signed a new memorandum of understanding in August 2026.
The goal of the collaboration is to accelerate the development and manufacturing of drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles. Drones have emerged as a central element in modern warfare, and their importance in defense has grown rapidly in recent years.
The agreement strengthens security cooperation between the countries and offers both parties an opportunity to share technological expertise. The collaboration is part of a broader effort to support Ukraine's defense capabilities while simultaneously developing the Finnish defense industry.
The parties have not yet disclosed further details regarding the types of drone models that will be produced through this partnership. However, the agreement is a clear indication of how Finnish companies wish to be involved in supporting Ukraine and developing future defense technology.
