Archaeological excavations for the Turku tramway to be transferred to the Tramway Alliance
The construction project for the Turku tramway is advancing with a significant change. Moving forward, the Tramway Alliance will take responsibility for the archaeological excavations related to the project. Previously, these tasks were handled as separate entities, but they are now being integrated into the broader construction contract.
The value of the change is approximately 14 million euros. According to the Tramway Alliance, however, the arrangement will not affect the total cost of the tramway construction, which stands at approximately 465 million euros. The goal is to streamline the progress of the work and improve cooperation between the various parties involved.
Archaeological excavations are an important part of urban construction, as the city center of Turku is a historically valuable area. The excavations ensure that any potential historical findings are documented and preserved appropriately before the actual construction begins.
The change clarifies the division of responsibilities at the site. When the alliance is responsible for both the excavations and the construction, managing schedules becomes easier and potential delays are reduced. The Turku tramway is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the city's history, aimed at improving public transport in the coming years.
