Ministry of Social Affairs and Health asks for parents' opinions on children's social media use
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has launched a new survey to collect information on the social media use of children and young people. The ministry wants to hear, in particular, the views of parents and other guardians on how social media affects children's everyday lives and well-being.
The goal of the survey is to better understand the challenges that the digital environment poses to families. Parents are asked, for example, about their experiences regarding children's screen time, social media content, and what kind of support guardians would need to ensure children's digital safety.
The use of social media has increased significantly among children, which has sparked discussion both at home and in schools. The ministry emphasizes that parents' experiences are extremely valuable when planning future recommendations and potential new practices to improve children's digital well-being.
The collected information will be used as a basis when authorities assess whether changes are needed to social media regulations or guidelines. The goal is to create a safer digital environment for all Finnish children and young people.
Responding to the survey is voluntary, and the ministry hopes to receive as many responses as possible from different parts of Finland. The results will be completed later this year and will be utilized in decision-making concerning the well-being of children and young people in the digital age.
