The first F-35 fighter jets have arrived in Finland
A new era has begun for the Finnish Defence Forces. In September 2026, two new F-35 fighter jets successfully landed at the Rovaniemi air base. This event is a significant milestone in the development of the Finnish Air Force.
The aircraft that arrived, with the tail numbers JF-510 and JF-512, are part of Finland's extensive procurement program to replace the aging Hornet fleet. The new fighters bring with them cutting-edge technology that will enhance Finland's ability to monitor and protect its airspace.
The Rovaniemi air base has been preparing for the arrival of the aircraft for a long time. With the new fighters, the base's operations and the expertise of its personnel will reach a new level. The F-35 jets are expected to significantly strengthen the country's overall defense capability in the coming years.
The Defence Forces will continue the commissioning and testing of the aircraft over the coming months. Finland's goal is to ensure that the new equipment is at full operational readiness as soon as possible.
