Six companies fined for employing individuals residing in the country illegally
In Finland, cases have come to light where companies have hired employees who do not have the legal right to reside or work in the country. Authorities have imposed penalty fees on a total of six companies due to these illegal recruitments.
The fine amounts vary significantly depending on the case. The smallest fees imposed have been 1,250 euros, while the largest fines have risen to as much as 37,530 euros. The size of the fines has depended on factors such as the agreements between the employer and the employee, as well as the duration of the illegal employment relationship.
In Finland, employers have an obligation to verify the right to work of every person they hire. If a company hires a person who does not have the necessary residence permit or right to work, the employer is engaging in illegal activity. Authorities monitor these matters closely to prevent the growth of the shadow economy and to ensure that workers' rights are upheld.
These cases serve as a reminder to companies of how important it is to comply with the law during recruitment processes. Although this decision concerns individual companies, the authorities emphasize that violating the rules will always result in financial sanctions. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that all employment relationships are legal from the very beginning.
