Smartwatches are changing how Finns pay
Technological development is constantly changing how Finns handle their daily affairs. Nowadays, an increasing number of consumers prefer digital payment methods over traditional cash or even a physical bank card. Alongside smartphones, smartwatches have also emerged as popular tools for making payments.
The latest smartwatch models, such as the HONOR Watch 6, utilize NFC technology, or contactless payment capability. This means that a user can pay for their purchases at a store or café directly from their wrist. The user no longer needs to dig out a wallet or phone, which makes transactions faster and more effortless.
Using the contactless payment feature generally requires connecting the watch to a bank card via the manufacturer's app. Once the settings are configured, payment is made by bringing the watch close to the payment terminal. Security has been taken into account, as payment often requires unlocking the watch or other authentication, which protects the user from misuse.
In Finland, contactless payment is already a very common way to pay, and almost all stores support this technology. The increasing popularity of smartwatches is a natural continuation of this development. A wallet-free daily life is already a reality for many Finns, and technology offers even more options for it.
