Sweden invests billions in new fighter technology
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has entered into significant new contracts for the development of future fighter technology. The total value of the investments is 3.3 billion Swedish kronor, and the contracts are valid until 2028.
The majority of the funding, approximately 2.9 billion kronor, is being directed to the defence and security company Saab. In addition, contracts have been signed with the engine manufacturer GKN Aerospace. These investments strengthen Sweden's ability to develop and maintain modern air defence.
The development work focuses specifically on creating new technological solutions that improve the performance and operational reliability of fighter aircraft. The project is part of a broader effort to ensure the competitiveness and technological expertise of the Swedish defence industry in the coming years.
Sweden's investments in defence technology are also important for broader Nordic security cooperation. The deepening defence cooperation between Finland and Sweden means that investments made by neighbouring countries directly impact the security situation and defence readiness of the entire Nordic region.
