The Finnish Air Force has commissioned its first F-35 fighter jets
The Finnish Air Force has reached a significant milestone in the country's defense. On the first of October 2026, an official reception ceremony was held in Rovaniemi, where Finland's first F-35A Lightning II fighter jets were unveiled.
The new fighter jets are part of the modernization of the Finnish Air Force. The F-35 aircraft will gradually replace the current Hornet fleet, which has served Finland for decades. The new aircraft type brings with it advanced technology and significantly improves Finland's ability to monitor and protect its airspace.
The event in Rovaniemi was an important moment for the Finnish defense administration. Air Force leadership and other invited guests were present to witness the arrival of the new equipment. Basing the fighters in the north is strategically important, as it strengthens Finland's defense readiness in the northern parts of the country.
The commissioning of the F-35 fighter jets is a long-term process that will continue in the coming years. Finland has invested significantly in this defense cooperation, which aims to ensure Finland's security in a changing global situation. The new fighter system is one of the most modern in the world and guarantees the performance of the Air Force well into the future.
