There is still room for improvement in the information security of Finnish domain names
According to a recent study, there are significant shortcomings in the information security of Finnish domain names. Although the majority of Finnish domain names have implemented the DMARC security protocol, only a small fraction of them use it in the most effective way possible.
DMARC is an important tool that helps prevent email fraud and phishing attempts. It ensures that the sender of an email is truly who they claim to be. Without strict protection, criminals can more easily send fraudulent messages in the name of companies or organizations.
According to statistics, only 16.8 percent of Finnish domain names follow the so-called p=reject policy. This is the strictest possible setting, which automatically rejects all suspicious messages. The majority of domain names use milder settings that do not provide sufficient protection against security threats.
Experts remind us that digital security is vital for every organization today. Weak security settings leave domain names vulnerable to abuse, which can damage an organization's reputation and cause financial losses.
The situation shows that Finnish operators need to update their domain name security settings to be up to date. Implementing stricter DMARC policies is an effective way to improve the security of email traffic and protect users from cybercrime.
