Applications for Uuden musiikin kilpailu have begun – who will represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest?
Finland's most popular music event, Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK), is once again current. The Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) has opened the application process for the 2025 competition, and artists can now submit their songs for the contest. The application period is open until October 23rd.
In recent years, UMK has risen to great international popularity. Finnish representatives, such as Käärijä and Windows95man, have brought a great deal of visibility to the competition. Because of this, expectations for the upcoming season are high, and the audience is eagerly awaiting what kind of musical surprises will be seen this year.
All Finnish artists or those permanently residing in Finland can participate in the competition. The rules emphasize that the songs must be new and unreleased. An expert jury will select the finalists from the submitted candidates, who will then compete for the spot as Finland's representative in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The final winner will be chosen in a live television broadcast held next spring. The winner will be determined by the combined result of audience votes and an international jury. The event is an important stepping stone for many Finnish musicians and attracts millions of viewers from around the world each year.
