Passenger trains to begin running between Finland and Sweden in August
Train travel between Finland and Sweden will become significantly easier this summer. Regular passenger train services between Oulu, Tornio, and Haparanda will begin in August. The new connection offers passengers a new way to travel between the countries by rail.
The project is a long-awaited improvement to transport links between the Nordic countries. The rail connection links the Finnish railway network to the Swedish network, making travel smoother for both local residents and tourists. The border station between Tornio and Haparanda has historically been an important hub, and the new service will further strengthen this role.
The start of passenger traffic is part of a broader effort to develop cross-border transport. The rail connection is expected to increase the region's appeal and make it easier for people to travel for work or leisure. Authorities believe that the new route meets the growing need for ecological and easy travel options.
The service starting in August is a significant step in the cooperation between Finland and Sweden. Passengers will soon be able to enjoy a direct train connection that links northern Finnish cities directly to the Swedish side. More detailed schedules and ticket information will be released closer to the start of the service.
