A spectacular partial solar eclipse will be visible in Finland in August
On August 12th, it will be possible to witness a rare and magnificent natural phenomenon in Finland. A partial solar eclipse will be visible in the sky, during which the moon will cover more than 80 percent of the sun's disk. The phenomenon will be visible across a wide area of the country, making it one of the most significant astronomical events of the summer.
Experts remind the public that looking directly at the sun is dangerous, even when the moon covers most of it. Regular sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection for the eyes, as they do not filter out harmful radiation effectively enough. Looking at the sun without proper protective equipment can cause permanent damage to the retina.
A safe way to watch the eclipse is to use special eclipse glasses designed specifically for viewing the sun. Welder's goggles with a sufficiently high shade level can also be used. Regular sunglasses or homemade solutions, such as smoked glass, do not offer adequate protection.
If suitable protective glasses are not available, you can also watch the eclipse indirectly. For example, you can project an image of the sun onto a piece of white paper through a small pinhole or use other safe methods that do not involve looking directly at the sun. This way, you can enjoy the phenomenon safely without risking your eye health.
