Huge discounts on work and pickup truck prices
The Austrian government has decided to implement a tax amendment that will significantly reduce the prices of certain types of cars, especially pickup trucks and small commercial vehicles. Starting from July 1, 2025, the fuel consumption tax (NoVA) imposed upon the initial registration of these vehicles will be abolished, a tax that was calculated based on carbon dioxide emissions.
Thanks to this decision, the prices of some popular car models will decrease by amounts reaching several thousand euros.
For example, the price of the VW Crafter 35 will be cheaper by €10,380, while the price of the Mercedes-Sprinter will decrease by about €20,214. Pickup trucks may see their prices drop by up to €12,500, according to expert estimates.
The government considered this step as part of a package to support the 'middle class' and stimulate the economy, especially in sectors like artisans and small businesses that rely on these vehicles for their daily operations.
Despite the fact that the decision faces criticism from some economists and environmentalists due to the loss of state revenues, the government insists that it is necessary to support production and business activity.
