Fires in the Fontainebleau forest: the situation is now under control
Between July 12 and July 24, 2026, the Fontainebleau forest massif was struck by several outbreaks of fire. These blazes mobilized significant emergency resources for nearly two weeks to protect this iconic natural site in the Île-de-France region.
Local authorities have confirmed that the fires are now contained. This means that the fire is no longer spreading and no longer poses an immediate threat of expanding the burned area. Firefighters remain vigilant, however, to prevent any flare-ups.
The Fontainebleau forest is a space frequently visited by walkers and athletes. Due to the high risks associated with summer weather conditions, state services are reiterating the importance of strictly following safety guidelines and access prohibitions in sensitive areas.
An investigation is underway to determine the precise causes of these fire outbreaks. Authorities are calling on the public to exercise the utmost caution and to immediately report any suspicious smoke to emergency services by dialing 18 or 112.
