MEP Manon Aubry hospitalized after viper bite
French MEP Manon Aubry, a prominent figure in the La France Insoumise party, was admitted to the hospital earlier this week. This hospitalization follows an incident that occurred during an outdoor activity: the elected official was bitten by a viper.
According to information provided by her entourage, the incident took place while the Member of the European Parliament was on vacation. Although the bite of this snake is painful and requires rigorous medical monitoring, her state of health is reportedly not considered concerning by doctors.
The viper is the only venomous snake found in the wild in metropolitan France. Although its bites are rarely fatal for a healthy adult, they cause a significant inflammatory reaction and require rapid treatment in an emergency department to avoid any complications.
Manon Aubry wished to reassure her supporters and colleagues via social media. She stated that she would remain under medical observation for a few days to monitor the progress of her injury. She is expected to be able to resume her political activities soon.
This event serves as a reminder of the importance of caution during hikes or outings in nature, particularly during the summer period when reptiles are more active. Health authorities recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and remaining vigilant in areas with tall grass.
