Wildfires: France to use A400M military aircraft for the first time this summer
To prepare for next summer's fires, France has decided to strengthen its technical resources. The Director General of Civil Security announced that the A400M military aircraft will likely be used for the first time this year to fight wildfires on national territory.
This transport aircraft is particularly impressive due to its storage capacity. According to authorities, a single A400M can carry the equivalent of three Canadair planes. This power will allow for a much larger quantity of water to be dropped on the flames in a single pass, which is crucial for stopping the progression of large fires.
The use of this aircraft comes in a context of global warming where wildfires are becoming more frequent and more violent in France. Until now, Civil Security mainly relied on its fleets of Canadair and Dash aircraft. The addition of the A400M is therefore a strategic response to better protect forests and homes in the face of increasingly dry summer seasons.
This first test during the summer will be closely observed by experts and firefighters. If the experiment is successful, the A400M could become a permanent part of the French strategy against fires. The main objective remains to limit the destruction of nature and ensure the safety of French citizens.
