Cyberattack at SFR: personal data of many subscribers exposed
The telecommunications operator SFR was recently the target of a major cyberattack. This computer intrusion allowed hackers to access the personal data of some of its fiber-optic customers. The company confirmed the incident and immediately launched an investigation to assess the extent of the leak.
Among the stolen information, the data primarily relates to subscriber contracts. According to initial analyses, names, first names, telephone numbers, and email addresses may be affected. However, the operator sought to reassure its customers: passwords, bank details, and identity documents do not appear to have been compromised during this operation.
Faced with this situation, SFR has begun contacting the affected individuals individually by email to inform them of the nature of the exposed data. The company has also strengthened its security protocols to prevent any further intrusion. The relevant authorities, notably the CNIL, have been alerted to monitor the case closely and ensure compliance with personal data protection regulations.
Cybersecurity experts recommend that subscribers remain very vigilant in the coming weeks. It is advised to carefully monitor messages and calls, as the stolen data can be used by hackers to conduct "phishing" campaigns. It is therefore strongly advised not to click on suspicious links received via SMS or email.
This incident once again highlights the vulnerability of large companies to growing cyber threats. As the digitization of services accelerates in France, the protection of private data remains a major issue for both consumers and operators. SFR assures that it is doing everything possible to secure its systems and support its customers through this ordeal.
