Heatwave in France: a rising human toll this summer
France has experienced a summer marked by extreme temperatures, leading to serious consequences for public health. According to the latest data released by Santé Publique France, the number of deaths linked to periods of intense heat continues to rise across the country.
Health authorities have announced that at least 1,243 additional deaths were recorded during the heatwave that occurred between July 3 and July 22. These figures, described as "excess deaths," allow experts to measure the direct impact of heatwaves on the general mortality of the population.
Since the beginning of the summer season, the provisional toll now stands at more than 7,000 deaths. This worrying figure highlights the vulnerability of the most fragile individuals, particularly seniors and those suffering from chronic illnesses, in the face of recurring heatwave episodes.
Faced with this situation, health services are reiterating the importance of preventative measures, such as regular hydration and staying cool during the hottest hours of the day. The government continues to monitor the evolution of the meteorological situation to adapt protection measures across the entire territory.
