Wildfires in the Var: a critical situation and a heavy human toll
A violent wildfire has broken out in the Var department, already ravaging more than 2,500 hectares of vegetation. The fire, fanned by difficult weather conditions, is spreading rapidly and now threatens several municipalities located near wooded areas.
Local authorities have immediately deployed significant emergency resources to attempt to contain the flames. Hundreds of firefighters are mobilized on the ground, supported by aerial assets, in order to protect homes and prevent the blaze from spreading further toward inhabited areas.
Unfortunately, this intervention has been marked by a human tragedy. Two firefighters lost their lives while attempting to battle the inferno. This tragic event highlights the extreme danger of the emergency services' mission when facing forest fires of such intensity.
The situation remains under close surveillance as teams continue to work tirelessly. Authorities are calling on residents in the affected areas to exercise the utmost caution and to strictly follow the safety instructions issued by state services to ensure their protection.
