National mobilization: French firefighters on strike
Since this morning, firefighters across France have been called to a national strike. This social movement, supported by numerous fire stations throughout the country, aims to alert the government to the difficult working conditions of the firefighters.
The unions are primarily denouncing a lack of personnel in the face of the constant increase in the number of interventions. They are also demanding an increase in their hazard pay, which has not been raised for several years despite rising inflation and the increasing arduousness of their missions.
In addition to salary demands, the firefighters are expressing their concern regarding the management of fires, which have become more frequent and more intense due to climate change. They are calling for greater investment in protective equipment and aerial resources to fight forest fires.
Despite this strike action, the authorities assure that the continuity of public service will be maintained. Firefighters remain mobilized to respond to life-threatening emergencies and ensure the safety of French citizens, in accordance with their professional obligations.
The Ministry of the Interior has announced the opening of new discussions with union representatives in the coming days. The goal is to find sustainable solutions to meet the needs of rescue centers while ensuring the protection of the population in the long term.
