Heatwave in Île-de-France: Temperatures Expected to Peak at 38°C on Friday
France is currently experiencing a period of intense heat. Météo-France has placed Paris and the entire Île-de-France region under an orange heatwave alert. This alert particularly concerns Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10, 2026, when temperatures are set to reach exceptional levels.
The heat is expected to peak on Friday. According to meteorologists, the mercury could rise to 38°C in the capital and its surrounding areas. This situation is caused by a mass of hot air from the south stagnating over the region, preventing temperatures from dropping overnight.
In urban areas, the heat is often harder to bear due to the concrete and lack of green spaces. This phenomenon, known as the "urban heat island" effect, maintains high temperatures even after sunset. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to assist the most vulnerable individuals, such as children and the elderly.
To stay safe, it is essential to follow a few simple rules: drink water regularly without waiting to feel thirsty, stay cool, and keep shutters closed during the day. It is also strongly advised against engaging in intense physical activities outdoors during the hottest hours, between noon and 6 p.m.
The orange alert is expected to remain in effect until the end of the week. Residents are encouraged to regularly check weather reports to follow the situation's progress. A drop in temperatures is expected over the weekend, bringing much-needed relief after these two days of intense heat.
