Landes: Leisure center activity leader indicted for rape of minors
A serious case is currently shaking the town of Tarnos, in the Landes department. An activity leader working at a local leisure center has been indicted for acts of rape and sexual assault committed against children.
The individual had been suspended from his duties as a precautionary measure a few days ago. This decision was made by the municipality following reports of behavior deemed inappropriate toward several minors attending the facility. A judicial investigation was immediately opened to shed full light on these accusations.
Judicial authorities proceeded to arrest the suspect in order to question him regarding the acts of which he is accused. At this stage of the proceedings, the investigation is continuing to determine the extent of the assaults and to identify the exact number of potential victims within the leisure center.
The Tarnos town hall and state services have set up a listening and psychological support unit for the families affected by this situation. Social services remain mobilized to support the children and their parents through this difficult ordeal.
This case raises numerous questions regarding safety in childcare facilities for minors. Investigations are continuing under the authority of the public prosecutor's office, which will communicate new information as soon as the progress of the investigation allows.
