Deadly fire on the Greek island of Salamis

A serious fire has broken out on the Greek island of Salamis, causing an emergency situation in the middle of the summer season. While the beaches were particularly crowded with tourists and locals, the fire spread rapidly, forcing authorities to intervene immediately.

The human toll is unfortunately heavy. Emergency services have confirmed the deaths of two people. In addition to these tragic losses, several hundred people had to be evacuated in an emergency to escape the flames and the thick smoke that covered part of the island.

Firefighting teams were mobilized in large numbers to try to bring the blaze under control. The island's geographical location and weather conditions, often windy in Greece during the summer, made the rescue work particularly difficult in protecting residential areas and holiday resorts.

This event serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of Mediterranean tourist areas to the risk of fire, especially during periods of high heat. Local authorities continue to monitor the affected areas to prevent any flare-ups, while an investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of this tragedy.
