Vortex: The future Franco-German spaceplane in development
A new ambitious space project is emerging in Europe. The spaceplane, dubbed "Vortex," is currently being developed through a collaboration between the French aeronautics giant Dassault Aviation and the German company OHB. This innovative vehicle represents a significant step for European space autonomy.
Unlike traditional rockets that are used only once, Vortex is designed to be reusable. This system will make it possible to significantly reduce the costs of space missions. The main objective is to facilitate access to Earth's orbit for transporting scientific equipment and satellites.
In the long term, engineers are even considering using this craft to transport astronauts. If this project succeeds, it would allow Europe to have its own means of crewed transport to space, thereby strengthening its position against space powers like the United States or China.
For now, the program is in its design and technical development stages. Dassault Aviation is contributing its historical expertise in the field of fighter jets and complex systems, while OHB is focusing on satellite technologies.
