Tour de France: two riders forced to abandon after a spectacular crash
The Tour de France experienced a particularly difficult end to the twelfth stage this Thursday. As the peloton approached the town of Chalon-sur-Saône, an impressive mass crash caused several cyclists to stop the race.
Among the victims of this accident, two riders were more seriously affected: the Colombian Fernando Gaviria and the Belgian Jenno Berckmoes. After a thorough medical examination, the diagnosis was confirmed: both athletes are suffering from a broken collarbone.
Due to the severity of their injuries, the two men will not be able to take the start of the competition again. This double exit is a hard blow for their respective teams, which thus lose important members for the remainder of the Grande Boucle.
This incident serves as a reminder of the constant risks to which riders are exposed on French roads. Organizers and medical teams quickly attended to the injured to ensure their transfer to appropriate hospital facilities.
The race now continues without them, as the peloton prepares for the upcoming stages. Spectators and cycling fans have expressed their support for the two riders on social media, wishing them a speedy recovery.
