Wildfires in the Landes: situation improves after 1,580 hectares burned
A major fire recently broke out in the Landes department, in southwestern France. The fire ravaged approximately 1,580 hectares of forest, prompting a massive mobilization of emergency services to protect inhabited areas and the surrounding nature.
Firefighters worked tirelessly for several days to contain the flames. Thanks to their rapid and effective intervention, the fire's progression was halted. Local authorities confirmed that, despite the extent of the damage, there were no casualties and no houses were destroyed by the flames.
Weather conditions, which were very unfavorable at the start of the fire, have improved significantly. The drop in temperatures and the decrease in wind allowed ground crews and aerial resources to better control the situation. However, vigilance remains necessary to prevent any flare-ups.
Authorities are reminding citizens of the importance of caution, especially during periods of drought. It is strictly forbidden to light fires or throw cigarette butts in forest areas in order to prevent new outbreaks in this sensitive region.
