Dismantling an arms smuggling network: Four arrested in a raid operation
Four suspects have been arrested in the Netherlands as part of an international investigation into illegal firearms trafficking, following a coordinated police operation targeting a suspected smuggling network.
The arrests took place on February 24 in multiple cities, including Rotterdam, The Hague (Den Haag – The Hague), and Alkmaar. The suspects, aged 21, 23, 24, and 26, were taken into custody and later brought before an examining magistrate.
Authorities confirmed that two of the suspects, a 26-year-old from The Hague and a 23-year-old from Alkmaar, remain in custody for an additional 14 days. The other two individuals have been released but are still considered suspects as the investigation continues.
The case began in October 2025 after investigators discovered DNA evidence linking three of the suspects to a shipment of firearms. The weapons had previously been intercepted at the Port of Dover in the United Kingdom, where they were found hidden inside a vehicle with specially designed compartments.
Further investigation enabled police to connect multiple cases related to illegal arms trafficking. During coordinated raids on several properties, officers did not find firearms but seized materials linked to weapon handling and modification, including ammunition, magazines, barrels, silencers, and packaging equipment.
Authorities believe the suspects may be part of a broader international network, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full scale of the trafficking operation and identify any additional individuals involved.
