Integration is not an option: reduction of aid for those who fail to integrate

Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker emphasized in a recent interview the importance of mandatory integration for everyone coming to Austria, noting that the country will adopt a new phase called "Integration Phase," during which newcomers will not receive full social assistance until certain conditions are met.

Integration Minister Claudia Blackolm announced a mandatory integration program, approved by the Cabinet, which includes refugees, displaced persons, and asylum seekers with a high likelihood of recognition. These individuals will undergo training programs for three years, including German language, basic life rules, and preparation for the labor market.

Anyone who refuses to participate or fails to complete the courses will face a reduction in social assistance, as well as the possibility of paying self-contributions or facing administrative fines. Instead of full assistance, beneficiaries will be granted special integration support until they complete the programs or achieve sufficient insurance duration, with charitable work encouraged as a first step on the path to integration.

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Corina Schumann, emphasized that integration from day one is crucial, and that learning the language is fundamental for a quick entry into the labor market, which enhances opportunities for both individuals and society. She added that women play a pivotal role in transmitting values within the family, and therefore, they should be empowered early to learn the language and participate economically.

In clear statements, Christian Stöcker emphasized that integration is not an option but a commitment: "There will be no full assistance during the integration phase, but a waiting period. The goal is to learn German, adopt Austrian values, and prepare for the labor market. Those who refuse will face penalties."

The advisor concluded by saying: "Those who benefit from the state must give something in return."
