Fiery criticisms of Schilgoz due to her stance on the PVV party
The leader of the VVD party, Dilan Yesilgoz, is facing severe criticism for her indecisive stance on potential cooperation with the far-right PVV party, as the party's youth and some prominent officials are calling for a clear shift towards the political center.
Maok Brser, the head of the youth wing of the JOVD party, stated that the leader of the PVV party, Geert Wilders, "has had his chance," and that it is time to focus on "real issues such as the economy, climate, and security." He added that the performance of Yeşilgöz in the government collapse debate was "hesitant and lacking leadership," pointing out that the government fell due to the PVV party's failure to provide competent ministers and effective cooperation.
Brser accused Schilgoz of lacking the courage to make a decisive decision, and emphasized that "the Netherlands needs decisiveness." He also criticized the exclusion of a potential coalition with GroenLinks-PvdA, if these parties committed to increasing defense spending by 5%.
Despite his criticisms, Berser emphasized that Shilgoz is still the right person to lead the party from a liberal perspective, but he believes she needs to move clearly towards the political center.
Yeshilgoz was bombarded with questions during the debate, most of which revolved around her refusal to disclose whether she would cooperate again with the PVV party, at a time when these parties are expected to play a pivotal role in forming the next government, alongside GroenLinks-PvdA.
The criticisms were not limited to the opposition parties, but also included former party leader Ed Niebels, who described cooperation with the PVV as "one of the biggest mistakes in the history of the VVD party," warning of widespread unrest among voters if this mistake is repeated. For his part, MP Tun Elias warned that excluding the PVV could lead to a significant vote for the far-right, such as the JA21 party, considering that cooperation with the left creates a "diabolical dilemma," due to the presence of elements he described as "radical and sympathetic to Hamas."
The crucial question now is: when will Schilghoz finalize her position? Former political advisor Henry Kruitheof advised her to close the door immediately on Wilders, warning that keeping it open could give the PVV new credibility. However, he pointed out that Schilghoz needs to present a convincing alternative, as the other option is a government with GroenLinks-PvdA and D66.
