A Dutch suspect was arrested in Bucharest with a massive load of 'zombie drug'.
Romanian authorities arrested a Dutch man in Bucharest after catching him transporting about 12 kilograms of a banned psychoactive substance known on the black market as 'zombie drug'.
The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) stated that the suspect, aged 50, was arrested on January 23 as part of an investigation into the illegal trafficking of psychoactive substances. The police clarified that the shipment was sent from the Netherlands to Romania via an international transport company.
Investigators reported that the suspect obtained the substance known as N-ethylnorpentedrone earlier this month in the Netherlands. The shipment arrived in Romania via a shipping service, where he was arrested while transporting two large bags he had obtained from the company's office in Bucharest.
During his arrest, the man was driving a rented car that operated as a taxi. The police found several bags containing the narcotic substance inside the luggage. Authorities estimated that the seized quantity was sufficient to produce at least 120,000 individual doses prepared for illegal sale.
The prosecution explained that drugs in Romania are usually divided into small bags weighing about 0.10 grams and sold for around 10 lei each. Authorities warned that the low price makes it accessible to the most vulnerable users, emphasizing that this substance causes physical and psychological dependence and can lead to serious health damage or death. DIICOT also requested the court to issue a decision to provisionally detain the suspect for 30 days, while confirming his legal rights and the presumption of innocence.
