BND President warns of growing danger from Russia
The President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Bruno Kahl, has warned of an increasing threat from Russia. In a current assessment, he emphasized that the risk of a direct military confrontation between Russia and the West could rise significantly in the coming years.
According to the BND chief, Russia is currently preparing intensively to further expand its military capabilities. The goal is to put greater pressure on NATO states in the future. This development is being observed with great concern in security circles, as it could jeopardize stability in Europe in the long term.
Particularly worrying, according to Kahl, is the fact that Russia has massively ramped up its arms production. The BND assumes that Moscow will have the capability to consider an attack on NATO alliance territory from the year 2030 onwards. Germany must therefore prepare for a changed security situation.
The Federal Government and security agencies are now examining what measures are necessary to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. The BND's warning underscores the need for close cooperation within NATO in order to be able to react appropriately to the changed geopolitical situation.
